Content of this program has been coordinated with professional standard of Beauty care specialist in cosmetology – Regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Latvia – “Regulations regarding the State Standard for 1st Level Vocational Higher Education” Nr. 141, 20.03.2001.

Description of specialty

Beauty care specialist in cosmetology is a medical professional who specializes in various fields of beauty care, works in beauty care institutions and health care institutions, or works privately with cosmetology technologies, methods, beauty care products for solving of facial and/or body problems, whilst observing professional work ethics, standards of technical safety, general hygiene demands and other legislative instruments. A Beauty care specialist in cosmetology is well informed of cosmetics market and promotes his/her professional growth in the area of beauty care one has chosen – management of cosmetics and cosmetic products, management of solarium hardware, consultant of cosmetology technologies and methods.

Main professional tasks of Beauty care specialist in cosmetology

Depending on the field chosen, a Beauty care specialist in cosmetology acquires and uses field-specific, scientifically substantiated cosmetology technologies and methods, cosmetics and cosmetic products, consulting methods, as well as provides other services of cosmetic nature, whilst observing boundaries set by his/her professional role and competences.

Goal of the study program

To provide for preparation of 1st level professional higher education Beauty care specialist in cosmetology, including professionally theoretical and practical knowledge and skills, thus creating a free, responsible, and creative personality, that complies with the demands of European labor market.

Practical realization of study program

Practical realization of the study program is carried out in practical classrooms of the college, as well as practice basis in clinical conditions, beauty care salons, medical centers of rehabilitation and aesthetic medicine.

In learning practices students reinforce their knowledge and skills working with clients, assessing various problems in relation to skin conditions, analysis and solving of said problems under the guidance of a teacher.

P. Stradins Medical College of the University of Latvia has collaboration agreements with P. Stradins Clinical University Hospital, Jūrmala Hospital, National Rehabilitation Centre “Vaivari”, Rehabilitation Centre “Jaunķemeri”, regional healthcare establishments, Clinic if Aesthetic Medicine “4. Dimensija”, Semarah Hotel Lielupe, Hotel Jurmala SPA for realization of practical training.

Possibilities in labor market

Graduate of the college’s Beauty care specialist in cosmetology program can work in health care institutions and beauty care salons, performing duties in accordance with his/her competencies.

Graduates of study program “Esthetic cosmetology” have the possibility to:
